In my last post, I mentioned that the target audience of the careerbuilder and monster.coms of the world are employees who feel (1)irrelevant, (2)anonymous, or (3)have no means to measure their success. This probably makes common sense to you - especially if you are miserable in your job.
To get a better understanding of this and the necessary management/leadership remedies, I recommend you get Patrick Lencioni's Book: The Three Signs of A Miserable Job. I read this a few months ago and it remains at the top of my list for recommendations. In fact, as I spend one on one development time with new managers, this is one of the first books they receive from me. It is written as a story(fable) so it reads like a novel, but educates better than any textbook.
If you get some good actionable advice from it, I recommend you take it a step further and have your team read it together, all of you discuss it and and form a planned movement to snuff out all miserable jobs in your area. Your people will breathe easier and your customers will thank you!
a haha. this is too much fun.
