In December of 2007 I took what I expected to be a bit of growth break in terms of reading. I stay committed to reading in order to stimulate new ideas, gain insights and just better my biz and life knowledge. I normally read about 4-5 books at a time and most of them are subject matter related to a strength of mine or a hearts desire. With such a diet,I get stuffed and that was where I was in December. I took the break.
What happened in this break was the revelation of a practice I did not do enough. How often was I stopping to read my own mind? I mean here I am filling my brain with all of this information, making notes in the margins, applying what I am learning right away, telling people about it, referring you to it, etc. There was so much more mileage to get out of my reading, it was just all in my mind waiting for me to think deeply on it.
If you subscribe to the reality that you MUST read to lead, take a 2-week break and use your growth time to read your own mind. There is gold in their friend. You are made to create and be creative. You will be surprised how much you have retained and how insightful you are. Take the right step while doing this and have a pen/paper close by so you can collect your thoughts. Some of your best business ideas, speaking messages and leadership actions will come from what is already within you.
Great stuff! Thanks, my friend
